History & Purpose

Building Picture

The vision for Christian Missions Unlimited began in the early 1970’s. The founder of CMU, Chuck Conner Jr.,  was ministering throughout the Amazon with missionary friend, Paul Bellington. They flew to little towns and villages in a small Cessna single-engine aircraft – preaching in small churches, holding revivals and taking supplies to missionaries. Originally, Chuck thought  maybe he was supposed to be a mule so to speak, and concentrate on taking needed items to missionaries in the interior. However,  the amazing response to the Gospel and the tremendous need for churches there began to tug at his heart and would eventually change his life.

In 1975 Chuck met with a Brazilian couple who lived on the outskirts of a city called Rio Branco, Acre -- located in the southwestern region of the Amazon. Fifty miles from the Bolivian border -sitting at a simple table in their dirt-floor home – the family shared the need of a church structure for their small congregation. Months later, 15 CMU volunteers traveled to that remote town and built the first church . That church (Vila Ivonete) still stands to this day and was recently reconstructed to accommodate about 400 people. The church elected to preserve the original brick entrance to stand as a testimony of God’s provision.

The vision that would become a lifetime ministry was set before him!  "Build Churches in Brazil where the Gospel will be Preached and Building HomeSouls will be Saved, and lives will be changed until Jesus comes".

CMU volunteers began to crisscross the Amazon valley's 2.7 million square mile region in slow moving riverboats, bush planes and taxi busses. While building churches was the main task – Chuck never missed the opportunity to continue providing missionaries with many needed items from the states and was able to take even more now that he was bringing groups.

Churches were springing to life behind them- from the far reaches of equatorial jungle villages to the outskirts of metropolitan areas.

.

Some churches grew rapidly and eventually sponsored their own missions. Requests continued to pour in and volunteers as well as donations began to increase little by little. The ministry slowly but surely was growing.

Building Church

Christian Missions increased by one the number of churches built every couple of years until it built 100 in 1995. CMU has built at least 10 or more temples each year since. In the summer of 2010, CMU will construct the 300th temple in the state of Piaui.

Many other ministries have evolved around the work site over the years. Currently our volunteers take items to give away, conduct bible school and craft times for the children and many other things to build relationships in the community. To the Glory of God , literally thousands of Brazilians have come to faith in Christ and hundreds of volunteers have had their lives changed as well.

The country of Brazil is still growing and so are the many needs of the Brazilian people.

Christian Missions Unlimited is committed  to the vision and the call our Father has given us, with His direction and the prayers of His people we will continue to " Build Churches where the Gospel will be Preached , Souls will be Saved and lives will be changed until Jesus comes".
